Digital Inclusivity & STEM

COGHEP recognizes that the future of sustainable development lies in harnessing the potential of digital technology and equipping communities—especially youth and women—with skills in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

COGHEP has been implementing programmes that empower girls to take up STEM subjects within the Coast region. This has happened through community sensitisation and engagement forums where girls and women are encouraged through mentorship strategies on remaining in school and accessing the opportunities to reach their full potential.

Connection to     ICT knowledge and Digital resources through IHUB with physical space based in the Coastal City of Mombasa. COGHEP has been empowering girls and youth to access ICT skills which provides an  opportunity to access ICT knowledge and sponsorships or start their own ventures. Why Digital Inclusivity Matters

In today’s world, digital technology is no longer a luxury but a necessity. Yet, in many underserved regions, including parts of Kilifi and Taita Taveta counties, there exists a glaring digital divide. Limited access to the internet, digital devices, and digital literacy disproportionately affects:

  • Women and girls
  • Rural youth
  • Persons with disabilities
  • Marginalized and vulnerable communities

Digital exclusion not only widens social inequalities but also blocks access to education, employment, healthcare, and civic participation.

Our Commitment to Bridging the Gap

At COGHEP, we are committed to:

  • Establishing Community ICT Training Hubs: These hubs will offer digital literacy training, internet access, and mentorship to young people, especially targeting girls and youth from low-income households.

  • Promoting Gender-Responsive STEM Programs: We aim to inspire girls and young women to pursue careers in STEM by creating safe learning environments, offering scholarships, and partnering with mentors and role models in STEM fields.

  • Collaborating with Public and Private Sectors: Through strategic partnerships with government, corporates, and donors, we will mobilize resources and expertise to scale digital education initiatives.
